You like to write, but wonder how you can make money doing it.   Sometimes it’s better to step away from this goal and start writing in a big way to improve the communication skills on the web that need honing.  Consider, for example, viral marketing and the role that your writing can play.  Viral marketing (the spread and sharing of information) is extremely powerful when it’s done properly.  Giving away free samples can really bring in a lot of customers.  You’ll not only get sales from the people you directly give the freebies away to, but you’ll also be able to get customers from the people who give your freebie away to others.

Viral Marketing is All About Mass Quantity AND Quality.

The more freebies you release, the more often your freebies will be seen.  It’s a simple numbers game.  The more mud you throw at the wall, the more mud will be likely to stick to it.

If you’re selling information products as a writer, then releasing free samples is simple.  It won’t really cost you anything other than a little time.  You could simply give away free sample chapters of your current products, or you could create new short reports to give away.  You could also create your freebies in other media formats, such as video or audio.  The point here is that if you like to write, you can be writing high quality content to improve your communication skills on the web, while at the same time improving your web presence.

High Quality Freebies

The first thing to do is to create as many freebies as you can.  These need to be extremely high quality.  In fact, they should be so high quality that people would be happy if they spent money to buy them.  So, writing to improve communication skills on the web means becoming prolific and putting out tons of good quality content.

This may seem counterproductive, but it’s actually very important.  If you give away absolutely exceptional information for free, you’ll make people believe that the quality of your paid information must be phenomenal.

The higher the quality of your freebies, the better people will respond.  Not only will higher quality freebies result in more sales, but they’ll go viral quicker and on a larger scale.  People aren’t going to bother telling their friends and acquaintances about something that is poorly written or low quality.

But they’ll be very happy to tell others about something that they got for free if it solved a problem for them or really helped them in some way. Once you’ve created your freebies, you need to get them into as many hands as possible.  There are several great ways to accomplish this:

  1. Put a link to them in your forum signatures.
  2. Write to forum owners and ask them if they would tell people about it for you.  Give them a copy so they can see the quality.
  3. Contact bloggers in your niche and ask them if they would blog about it.
  4. Do a JV with other product owners.  Promote their freebies to your customers in exchange for them promoting yours.
  5. Alert your mailing list about the new freebies.
  6. Write articles and submit them to places like EzineArticles.com.  Link to your freebies in your bio box.

Once you get your freebies into the hands of influential people in your market, the rest should take care of itself.  As long as your freebies are quality, they should spread rapidly and your reputation as a stellar content provider will skyrocket.
